China Develops New Disc Standard
November 04, 2005
According to a report by the Xinhua news agency, the Wuhan Photoelectric State Laboratory has developed a next-generation disc standard, called NVD (Net Video Disc), which can store a 150 minute high-definition movie on each side. The disc is promoted as China's first disc standard, pitting it against other standards such as Blu-ray and HD-DVD, and its price is claimed to be one-tenth of a Blu-ray disc. The laboratory will apply for a patent at the Chinese State Intellectual Property Office.
